EDP, SS – In this 10 credit learning community combining COLL 101 and SOC 150, students will be introduced to Cascadia’s collaborative and integrated learning model as they practice academic skills that enable them to take ownership of their pathway to academic success. Simultaneously, students will engage in an analysis of social inequalities prominent in the U.S., such as race, class, and gender. They will participate in learning activities designed to foster active learning, engaged citizenship, and integration of new knowledge about social inequalities, empowering students to make a difference in their own communities. Prerequisite(s): Completion of ENGL 96 with a grade of 2.0 or higher or placement into ENGL&101.

EDP, SS – In this 10 credit learning community combining ENGL&101 and POLS&202 students will analyze political texts associated with the presidential election to be held in fall 2020. Through practicing various modes of reading, and developing strategies for interpreting and responding to a wide variety of political-oriented texts, students will be able to explain and understand the reasons for the results of the presidential election. Students will also compose texts that articulate their own political viewpoints, persuade others to adopt a particular political viewpoint, and evaluate the political analysis and commentary of political actors and other sources of political information, and that present theoretical solutions to real-world problems. Prerequisite(s): Completion of ENGL 96 with a grade of 2.0 or higher or placement into ENGL&101.
